How Lauma works
The technology has been ready for a while. The hard part is not the radio but making the whole thing simple enough that anyone can put it to use.
The big obstacle to building this kind of network in a forest used to be power. With the latest generation of hardware the power draw of a node has dropped so low that a small solar panel and a battery are enough for year-round use.

Beyond that, the technical side has been shown to work many times over. The pieces just had to be put in place, and then built and tested.
The hard part is not the technology
The hardest thing here is by no means the technology. It is how to turn it into a package that is accessible to everyone, not only to technically minded people. It has to be made very simple, and productised.
This is what it looks like now:
- A coverage node needs nothing more than to be lifted into a tree.
- A Lauma Tracker is taken into use by scanning the QR code on the side of the collar with the app, and that is it.
- The radio in your pocket is set up by the Lauma app itself: channels, keys and radio settings are written into it automatically.

This post does not go deeper into the technology. The front page explains the four parts and the two ways to use it, with and without the cloud.
